James M. Phillips
President, CEO and Chairman of the Board
James M. (Jim) Phillips has enjoyed an exciting career starting companies and guiding them through successful IPO’s, pioneering new technologies such as the PDA, digital cell phones, fixed cellular, the cable modem and internet multimedia into major industry-leading positions.

Effective June 1, 2007, Phillips transitioned from CEO and Board Chairman to that of Vice-Chairman in order to better interface with the medical and financial communities embracing Luminetx technologies.

One of Information Week’s 2004 Innovators of the Year, Phillips began his career with Nortel Networks, holding various management positions including vice president. He was president and co-founder of SkyTel, the nation’s largest messaging company, which led to the PDA revolution.

As president and vice-chairman of Telular Corporation, Phillips helped pioneer the industry for wireless local loop cellular voice and data telephone, alarm and telemetry systems.

He then served as corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola, PCS and Multimedia divisions, where his team invented the cable modem.

Phillips co-founded iPIX Corporation and, as chairman and CEO, led the company to become what Forbes called “the Kodak of the internet.” The company invented the virtual tours that are now a staple on real estate, hotel and entertainment Web sites, and the only 360 x 360° security camera system used by the White House and many government agencies and corporations, and developed the popular image submission process and system utilized by millions of users on eBAY.

Phillips has held the position of CEO in Residence and special advisor to the Private Equity Groups at Morgan Keegan & Company. Phillips holds patents in cell phone, PDA and data modem design.

As founding Chairman and CEO of the FedEx Institute of Technology (FIT), Phillips helped establish this leading research park on the campus of the University of Memphis. Information Week called FIT “the technology industry’s newest center for innovation,” and WIRED magazine compared it to the Media Lab at MIT.

Phillips’s contributions as an innovator and business leader have been chronicled in many national publications, including Forbes, Fortune, Business Week, Red Herring, The Standard, WIRED, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Today. He has appeared numerous times on Fox News, CNN, CNNfn, CNBC, the BBC and CBS Morning News.

Dr. Gunnar Lovhoiden, PhD.
Director of Advanced Technology
Dr. Gunnar Lovhoiden, one of the key collaborators on the VeinViewer™ Imaging System, earned both his Masters of Science and his Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee. His Ph.D project included the design and construction of a proof-of-principle VeinViewer™ prototype which demonstrated the feasibility of projecting vein patterns back onto the skin with the highest degree of accuracy. Additionally, he conducted a clinical pilot study that demonstrated the significant clinical utility of the VeinViewer™ device.

Dr. Lovhoiden's Masters project included the design and construction of a chest phantom for intravenous coronary angiography studies using K-emission x-rays. When available x-ray sources proved insufficient to generate the desired K-emission x-rays, Dr. Lovhoiden spent more than a year at Brookhaven National Laboratory designing and building an original x-ray generator from spare parts made available to him.

Prior to joining Luminetx, Dr. Lovhoiden spent 6 years teaching Engineering and Engineering Technology courses ranging from Basic Electronics and Microprocessors to Engineering Mechanics and Engineering Economy.
